Quality Management

Spectrodensitometer

The main objective of a spectrodensitometer in the printing industry is to ensure accurate and consistent color reproduction throughout the print production process. It helps achieve this by: Objective: Measuring ink density – To maintain correct CMYK ink film thickness

Monitoring dot gain (TVI) – To control the spread of halftone dots

Checking overprint (trapping) – To ensure proper ink layering

Evaluating print contrast – For better shadow and highlight details

Comparing with standards – To meet ISO, G7, or customer specifications

Reducing waste and reprints – By catching color errors early

Building customer confidence – Through data-backed quality assurance

Viscosity Gauge (Viscometer)

A viscosity gauge (also called a viscometer or viscosity cup) is an essential instrument used in the printing industry to measure the thickness or flow resistance of liquid inks, coatings, and varnishes, including UV inks.
Objective:
Measure ink flow consistency – Ensure UV ink has the correct thickness for proper transfer Maintain print quality – Incorrect viscosity causes dot gain, poor trapping, or color variation Ensure proper curing – UV inks need correct viscosity for uniform curing under UV lamps Control ink consumption – Proper viscosity prevents excessive ink usage.
Prevent printing defects – Avoid issues like misting, splashing, or poor adhesion

GSM Scale

A GSM scale is a precision weighing instrument specifically designed to measure the grams per square meter (GSM) of paper, cardboard, and other sheet materials by weighing a precisely cut sample of standardized dimensions The GSM scale operates through a simple but accurate process:
Objective: Sample Cutting – A specialized cutter (usually 100 cm², 50 cm², or 10 cm²) cuts a precise sample from the material Calculation – The scale automatically calculates the weight per square meter based on the sample area and measured weight Display – Results appear directly in g/m² (GSM) , oz/yd², or other units.
